A R Antulay, former CM dies at 85

Former Union minister and Maharashtra’s first Muslim chief minister, Abdur Rehman Antulay, died on Tuesday 2nd Dec. 2014, after a prolonged illness, his nephew and son-in-law Mushtaque Antulay said. He was 85. inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi wa rajioun (Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return).

May Allah shower His Mercy and fill his grave with Noor, save him from Ahzaab and the fire of Jahannum and grant him Jannat ul Firdus. Ameen.

Antulay breathed his last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital where he had been admitted a few days ago. He is survived by his wife Nargis, son Naved and daughters Neelam, Shabnam and Mubina.

Known as ‘Barrister Antulay’, he was Chief Minister of Maharashtra from June 1980 to January 1982. He alos served as a Union Minister in 1995, and later in the UPA-I government of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“As per tradition, we perform the funeral in our native place. We are likely to hold the funeral ceremonies on Wednesday in his village of birth at Ambet, Raigad district,” Mushtaque Antulay said.
